Samsung's 550 Series is a perfect way to step up to Full HD 1080p resolution. A fast 5 ms response rate produces smooth-motion scenes for sports and action movies, and a dynamic contrast ratio of 30,000:1 makes for deep blacks and crisp lines (15,000:1 in 32-inch and 37-inch models). Superb connectivity and networking with a USB port and 3 HDMI 1.3 ports with Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) means these HDTVs play well with all of your other electronics. Easily enjoy MPEG and JPEG files stored on external devices by connecting through the side-mounted USB 2.0, turn your LCD into a full-scale home viewing gallery, or connect your MP3 player for a dynamic audio experience.

Customer Reviews

Awesome picture quality and great price for a 2008 model5
I first checked all the HDTVs at a local Best Buy store and I will admit they all looked nice to me. My decision to buy this TV from Amazon.com was influenced by these factors: Samsung brand, 2008 model, great price, no tax, and free white glove shipping.

I have connected my TV to Comcast HD set-top box using HDMI cables. The picture quality on HD channels is stunning and very good on non-HD channels too. Initially I had some apprehensions that perhaps 40" wasn't big enough, but after watching all those vivid, sharp images of people and things up close it doesn't feel small at all! Earlier I had used "component" cables for video connection but HDMI is clearly better. DVDs also look nice. For audio I have a premium audio home theater system (Bose) so I have turned the TV volume to OFF.

My only complaint against this TV is with the extreme difficulty I had in taking off the stand that came with it. The screws at the back somehow got "stuck" and wouldn't come off readily. Samsung customer service representative on the phone didn't have any constructive advice to offer either. I had to tilt the TV, screw back and unscrew several times before the screws came off one by one. In such a high-tech TV they didn't get this simple mechanical thing right. Now I have the TV mounted to a floor mount-stand (Bello) and am loving it.

Awesome TV for the Price!!!!5
Got this TV delivered yesterday via the 'White Glove' service and have been amazed at the picture. VERY easy to set up w/ my digital cable via HDMI cable and have been VERY pleased with the performance so far using the factory settings. I used component connections for my older DVD-R and it displayed a very nice, crisp picture despite only being a 480p source.

The only complaint I have with it is that the stand does not raise the LCD up enough (~3/4 of an inch) to clear the digital cable box and DVD player on the antique piece of furniture we chose to place it on. I would recommend this set to anyone.

Great buy!5
Got our tv last night. I had it delivered to my office but the delivery guy helped me set it up at my workstation and made sure everything worked. What a beautiful set. The tv itself is elegant and simply detailed. The picture is phenomenal and the setup was a sinch. For the price you cannot get a better deal. Even regular (non-HD) channels looked great through the hdmi connection.
